Scattered Afternoon and Evening Thunderstorms

Raining in late afternoon as it does
Like clockwork in south Florida
Upon the boulevard flanked with planted palm
The ancient railroad that runs alongside
The nearly as-ancient federal highway
Boon and danger for racoons armadillos and airborne raptors
That scan and patrol beside the canal

But here is no tropical clime
Though the environs are lush with life
The drought only a memory
Succeeded by gusty winds flash floods and lightning
That buzzed a neighbor tarrying on the patio
And here too the interstate the golf courses the big box stores
To drive by force and fraud nature into obedience
