Lyrical Ballad

The most natural thing in the world
And yet divergent somehow
Repellent in its uniqueness
Paces into the furled afternoon

We assayed an expedition
Nakedness after nightfall
In a place of daylight bustle
Relieved mostly pale of enthusiasm

The following day the leaves
Remained in their prescribed places
The calm doorposts remained
But we glanced pert disheveled
